Brus Laguna

Located in Brus Laguna, Honduras, the Perla Brus Laguna project delivers a 400 kWp solar energy system, 1.75 MWh of battery storage, and a 624 kW diesel backup. Developed in just 8 months, the project required multimodal logistics to overcome challenging access routes and involved continuous engagement with local ethnic communities to ensure respectful integration of the system.

Adverse weather conditions posed additional challenges during logistics and installation. However, the project is designed to provide a reliable energy supply in this remote region, aligning the benefits of storage technology with the community’s needs in a demanding environment.

Pre-Solartia Situation

Before the project, Brus Laguna, a remote community in Honduras located within the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve, had no stable access to electricity and relied on precarious energy solutions. Around 40% of households used candles for lighting, while another 23.6% depended on limited private electricity, primarily from individual diesel generators.

This lack of reliable electricity negatively impacted daily life, restricted access to basic services, and limited the community’s ability to respond to emergencies and natural disasters

Situated in northeastern Honduras in the Mosquitia region, Brus Laguna is known for its biodiversity, indigenous culture, and a landscape dominated by tropical rainforests and wetlands.

Solartia Hybrid Microgrid

Solartia builds a hybrid microgrid that integrates 400 kWp of solar PV + a 1,748 kWh energy storage system with batteries + a 624 kW diesel generator. Brus Laguna is a small indigenous village located in the jungle of La Mosquitia within the Biosphere of the Río Plátano, a territory declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, isolated from the electrical grid and lacking permanent access to affordable and clean energy.
